why is this a rare scenario ?
What is the "variant" for then ?

Even with only 2 variants, the parameters passed to mplayer are buggy. I 
just happens to work with passing twice the same option, but with more, it 
fails. So even with only 2 variants freevo relies on some non-obviou 
mplayer "bug"

yes I think there is an easy fix but I can't implement it now...
