I got the latest SVN version, I am assuming it's the newest.
How long is the time-out? I have the server running on the same machine as
Freevo and no firewall.
I got the mood aspect working, just had to copy the playlist created by
MusicMagicMixer into a directory that Freevo could find. Then I just hit
select and then chose "musicIP mix", I assume it's working the same as in
the Mixer.

You may have a firewall running that's not returning a "connection
refused" response. It should come back with an error pop-up of some
kind otherwise.
It wouldn't be hard to include the mood feature, I might get around to
it. It wouldn't be hard for any beginner python programmer to add,
really, just a matter of copying the Albums code and making it into
moods, I think.
