Xine is already integrated into freevo. So vdr-xine integrates fairly easily. I can't say about xinelibout as i have no experience with it.
How does is the event system handled? I use a remote so lirc is used. with the vdr-xine pluging freevo catches the lirc events and manages (through the exusting xine inteface) the events into vdr. I'm happy with the status quo but an not upset if no-one chooses to use it. I'll look for the patch though...
