Hmm... Run nvidia-settings and it really did turn out that despite the log
saying that TV is running at 1024x768, in reality the resolution was
640x480. Alas, nvidia-settings couldn't save xorg.conf file, so I had to try
it under dual monitor. The results _seem_ to be better than before (in terms
of quality), but still not as good as the picture from my DVD player. Right
now the same DVD played from, let's say xine, is approx twice as worse as
DVD played by DVD player. The '-D' flag for xine (deinterlacing) doesn't
seem to change anything....
Anyways, it looks like it's not freevo issue anyways... Will try to run the
same DVD from under Windows to TV - probably it's just my card....Thanks for

Are you sure the driver is actually loaded? Try running nvidia-settings
in X and see what it says. I believe when I had this issue the drivers
were not loading properly. What video card do you have? Some of the
older cards require that you run a 'legacy' driver or else the driver
won't function.
