I asked a similar question on the ivtv lists as in recent kernels the PVR-350 and the lirc Hauppauge driver didn't work too well. I received a private mail answer and is seems that the kernel now processes the lirc events. What this means is that you need to use the lirc's dev/input driver. See: http://www.wh9.tu-dresden.de/~heinrich/lirc/list-archive/sf/9966.html for a howto. If you need a user/password then they are lirc lirc. Something that I should add to the wiki.
