@ Pascal: I don't know about your problem, but have you tried the stock kernel instead? The tmb kernel on Mandriva systems is, as far as I know, a kernel with little or no patches, which makes it pretty clean, but also less usable on most systems ;-)
@John: A few years ago, I sold a few of those HIPER boxes, and was not at all impressed with them... they managed to put a AMD 64 with stock cooler in this far too small box, which made it quite a noisy box. Got a lot of complains from it :-( Don't know about the recent models though...
