PS3 will play DNLA or RPNP served streams.  It has natice H.264
support and i *think* it plays TS streams.

You can also install linux on it, then it can play your iso dumps.
divx, mp4, mks, ogg and so on.

If you do a search on "spu media lib" you'll find that hardware
accelerated videio is coming along quite nicely, *but* I'm not sure if
linux H.264 support is their yet on the PS3.  I do know that spu-media
lib team are planning to make their own implementation but it's early
days on that front.

Might be little bit more that what you were thinking of (and a little
bit bigger) but you get the added benefit of having a ps3 which is
also going to be agreat gaming machine one of these days.
