Yes, but just for fun. As you maybe already know if read the the list  
in the past few days, I'm working on a lightweight Freevo based live  
distribution supposed to be used from an (even small size) flash drive  
or read only media (http://www.piren.org/).
To test the minimal space needed by an however working Piren  
remastered release, I just finished building an <90 Mb ISO file that  
is loaded entirely from RAM.

Maybe you can test Piren or use the same approach: tmpfs (ram based)  
joined with the read-only squashfs root image using unionfs. No need  
for a network filesystem if you don't care losing your cache/logs on  
poweroff.
