I'll explain how I use amarok which might help...

There are 3 ways that I listen to music, I'm sure other people will want
more but these are mine ;)

1) Listen to an album (either random or straight through)
2) Listen to several different albums one after the other (again either
random or straight)
3) Listen to a playlist I've created (usually random, but sometimes I want
to listen in order for multiple disc narrated things like Hitchhikers
Guide)

So how can this be implemented?

Number 1 - no worries, Freevo does this just fine.

Number 2 - This should be fairly straight forward, as someone else
suggested what Freevo needs is a "to play" list that can easily have whole
albums added to and removed from it. If the list keeps some idea of
structure rather than just adding lots of individual items then whole
albums can be easily removed from the list using the remote without having
to remove 12-20tracks.

It would mean a fundamental change to the way the playing of tracks
worked, as Freevo would need to control the list and play the tracks one
at a time rather than invoking the player with a big long list. The player
view would also need to be altered to allow an easy way to see the list
and to edit it.

Number 3 - This is harder, as you say creating playlists by adding and
removing tracks using a remote is tedious in the extreme. Perhaps a good
solution to this would be to have a section of the webserver to allow
creation of playlists using the website? This could provide an easy and
quick way to edit and create the playlists, which are then played using
Freevo.

I think it would also be nice to have a separate space for playlists
rather than them being included along with music tracks, so that it is
easy to go straight to playlists if that is the common way you want to
listen to your music.
