Sounds like an issue with the ability of livepause to write to the
harddrive. The micro-pauses are an attempt by livepause to let the stream
from the harddrive settle down, as it sounds like the feed to mplayer is
being starved of data.

Are you doing anything else at the same time? Are there any other
processes running?
