/var/run/lirc is a directory so it will need the 'x' permission as well, so as over kill you can set the permission to 777 > Do I have to set all the above programes to user root.myuser as well? > > Any help appreciated. One useful trick is to use strace on programs that you have no idea about what is going on. So for example: strace -o lircd.strace lircd -d /dev/lirc0 will create a log called lircd.strace that you can look at to see what is happening.
