Already possible just use tmpfs, simply mount a directory with tmpfs setup
with the required amount of memory you want to use for buffering and point
livepause at it.

Thanks Adam.
I implemented a tmpfs RAM disk of 512M and pointed my livepause buffer to
this drive. It works a treat!! I no longer have any macro blocks, audio
pops or squeaks or any other issues with the livepause/live TV stream...it
appears to be rock solid!
It has only been one night so far but I am confident that streaming the
livepause data to a RAM disk has fixed my issues.
So, the question now is why does increased HDD activity have an effect on
mplayer (in my case) rendering the video? As I mentioned before the record
stream is always saved without errors. The difference between
livepause/mplayer and recording is that livepause/mplayer needs the
video/audio stream in real-time. Increasing the HDD activity may cause the
HDD data access to be more "bursty" to the point where the real time
performance is adversely affected.
I don't know anything about the SATA interface standard, but
from running hdparam it appears that the average read/write data rate is
adequate but that does not tell us you how "bursty" the accesses are. Also,
I don't know how livepause uses the HDD. It could possibly be a combination
of the SATA interface characteristics and the livepause implementation...but
I am guessing.
It is time to buy another 2G of RAM!
Thanks,
Trevor.
