I would suggest that you shouldn't be installing Gnome on a machine which is
to be a freeVSD server. To get going, perform the following steps:

Carry out a standard server installation of RedHat 6.2 onto your freeVSD
server.
Having got the server installed, return to your desktop machine, use your
GUI of choice, and telnet into the freeVSD server.
Go to ftp.freevsd.org/freevsd and download RPMS/freevsd-1.4.7-1.i386 and
skels/freevsd-skel.phpmysql-rh6.tar.bz2
Follow the instructions given in ftp.freevsd.org/freevsd/skels/README and
you will soon have some virtual servers up and running.

Then you need to start trying out vsdadm via the command line, or download
the web administration scripts via the freesvd.org website.
