start/stop daemons and rpm?

Hi,
 How can I stop/start a daemon under vsd??? I rebootvs
everytime , is there anyway to stop/start individual
daemons??
N about rpm, I found rpme under vsd , when I execute
it to install a package with 'rpm -i file.rpm' it
gives me an error invalid option or this is b'cuz only
the master root is allowed to install rpm packages??
