Popauth issue

I'm having a problem getting pop-before-relay/pop-before-smtp to work correctly with the following setup:

 

skel: freeVSD-skel-1.4.9-1rh6

freevsd: 1.4.9-2

Base OS: RedHat 7.1, with quota support enabled.

 

History:

I just turned on popauthd by setting

    popauthd_enable="YES"

in the /etc/rc.conf file.  I also made sure to uncomment the entries in /etc/crontab that pertained to popauthd.  I then rebooted the VS.  The daemon starts as expected, but I get a 'Relaying denied' error when I try to send mail through it.  I investigated further.  It looks like IP addresses are gettinged logged with connection attemps (like I would expect) in /var/log/maillog. 

 

It also seems that /etc/mail/access doesn't get updated, I noticed 'popauth' references a file called /etc/mail/access.info -- and it isn't there, and I was having a problem running /etc/mail/POPauthd/makeaccess until I removed /etc/mail/access.db and ran makeaccess to generate it.

 

HELP!

 

What am I missing?  What can I try?

In an effort not to contribute to spamming Sendmail is, by default, resistant to relaying email. As a result it is necessary to use pop-before-relay/pop-before-smtp when your are sending email. This involves using the popAuthd daemon to monitor pop connections and add the necessary entries to Sendmail's configuration to allow relaying. Getting popAuthd running is a simple matter of uncommenting an entry in the virtual server's startup files (or in the skel if you wish it to be the default arrangement for all virtual servers). Further instructions are given in the INSTALL document under ' 6.5.3 Pop before SMTP'
