Kevin,

I've been following the list, but have been really disapponted for many
aspects.

>why is there no more ftp of the current versions ?

Obviously idaya is trying to make money on freevsd, but I think that now
they're crossing the lines of the GNU license.

They MUST release the source of freevsd because it's a project based on a
modification of another GNU project. But they make it hard enough to get the
source so you have to buy their CD which is priced way beyond its real
value. For the same money you get MUCH more stuff from ANY other
distribution, AND you're allowed to download the ISO images anyway. The
bandwidth excuse is just so: an excuse, as you can buy unlimited bandwidth
for few bucks in the US.

The same goes for the so called vsd clients. The pricing is ridiculous. With
that money I can hire any programmer I want to write the apps, or just sit
down and write my own in my spare time. So no, I will never pay the
licensing for the clients, and might decide to release some open source
versions real soon.

So yes. I'm going down on this really hard. Sorry, but this is the second
open source project I relied on which is going rotten. It's such a pitty
when people take other peoples work, retouch it and then try to sell it at a
high price. I believe in online collaboration and always give back as much
as I can to the community (the sendmail 8.11.x mods for freevsd are mine as
is the first apache+frontpage hack, to name a couple).

Regards,
Dave C.
