As I indicated in my previous post: http://www.freevsd.org/support/mail-archives/freevsd-support/2001/Nov/0225.h tml pam_vsd was introduced to remove the need for patching some of the add-on packages, ie proftp. I believe (though have not had time to check) that the proftp provided with packages from 1.4.9 is not actually patched in any way so does not respond to configuration within VSD specific files. Earlier versions of proftp were specifically patched to support the chrtftp entry within the VSD priv file. This was probably not clear because historically the naming convention of addon packages has not generally reflected when packages have been 'VSD-ified'. We are now using 'vsd' within the rpm's name to indicate if it is an rpm patched in some way for VSD as opposed to the standard RPM package.
Given the tone of recent comments on the list I feel I need to confirm that the introduction of pam-vsd was simply intended as yet another worthwhile improvement for the VSD community - free of charge to use as they wish under the GPL. It was not, as has been suggested, a sinister plot to break existing installations of freeVSD.
