I am researching FreeVSD as a package for a Domain Registrar and Webhosting Company. Since I'm the new guy, I got assigned to do the research. (The CTO probably already knows these answers, but he won't tell me that yet) My questions are this;
If we were to implement FreeVSD as a completely new package, on brand new servers, disks, networks, etc... what are the best packages to use it with? For webhosting, for e-mail, for instant messaging, for provisioning of new accounts, for billing purposes, for end-user administration of their own accounts, databases, etc..? We do have tech people that are good with Linux and others who are pretty good with Solaris. For myself I'm just good at getting into trouble and calling 1-800-HEEELLLLPDESK, but the IT people are comfortable with using various flavors of Linux and Unix. Since we haven't started operating yet, it is pretty easy for us to put together a plan the right way from the beginning. We don't need to deal with undoing other programs, or migrating data files/partitions from other servers. I want to set up a plan from the beginning to be stable, scalable and usable. If anyone has any ideas or roll out plans that you could share I would sure appreciate the help.
