The VSD system is extremely flexible and can be integrated with a large
variety of software. There are a couple of areas to consider...

Skels:

Every virtual private servers must be based on a skel. The skel dictates the
applications and initial configuration each virtual server will have. You
could have multiple skels which offer differing levels of applications (not
everyone actually needs a database such as MySQL for instance). You can be
generate your own skel containing the hosting software you wish to use
(Cyrus IMAP perhaps, or qmail?) however this takes time and some technical
knowledge - most packages will require some tweaking of their default
configuration to get everything running smoothly. Fortunately the chaps at
IDAYA have, for a selection of typical packages (Apache, Sendmail, PHP,
MySQL, Webalizer), done this tweaking already so you can simply use their
skel as a basis to get up and running straight away. Older versions of the
skels are available for download free of charge but the latest skels
(including features such as FrontPage) are currently only available when you
purchase either a ProVSD or FreeVSD CDROM - check out idaya.com and
freevsd.org...

Administration:

Creating/managing virtual private server accounts can be achieved via the
command line, via Windows based administration tools (available with ProVSD)
or, very soon, via an integrated web adminstration system. It really depends
on your preference. Both the windows and web tools provide interfaces for
the ISP, the virtual private server owner and the end user...

Alternatively, PHP web scripts which demonstrate integrating with the VSD
protocol (see freevsd.org) could be used as a basis for your own web admin.

Unsurprisingly, your options come down to rolling your own (in which case
you can use pretty much any software you feel comfortable with), using the
pre-packaged solution as is, or using the pre-packaged solution as a basis
on which to build...
