Let me rectify this: No idea why it's needed _to be always there_. Since it's only needed for setup and commit, i don't see why it's not only mounted when needed. But in fact, i don't really care, would just be "cleaner". Or i forgot to cosider something, and it's really needed... As said, no idea. But it's normal (which is the required information here). > > >> fwcf 15208 252 14956 2% /etc > >also a tmpfs, residents in ram unless manually written (see below) > > Always resides in RAM. Okay, again, i'll correct myself. It _always_ resides in RAM, but its contents can be manually _copied_ to flash via fwcf commit. To be the 100% correct you seem to demand, only the contents not already on flash get copied with fwcf commit. But i don't think the average user wants to be bothered with such details, and the fact that /etc is a tmpfs on ram which has be written to flash with fwcf commit, is the basic info one needs. Or the other way round, just saying that it _always_ resides in ram without telling the full fwcf story, doesn't help to understand our way /etc is handled. Maybe this applies only for me, but at least i try to give the required information to help, and not too much more. If one is interested in further aspects, the given websites provide the full story.
