Hi Gary, You sound exactly like me! I moved to London and never bothered to get a licence, letting my NM one expire. I visited Santa Fe with my folding bike a few years ago and it was actually really useful to get around. There's some good bike/pedestrian paths nowadays.
You can see these at http://www.santafenm.gov/DocumentView.aspx?DID=2573. There's also the Rail Runner for getting down to ABQ. It's pretty infrequent though, only 1 an hour on weekdays but its something. All in all, if I ever move back to Santa Fe, I'd try to see how long I can go without getting a car.
