Boy, good point. AOL attempted to be a walled garden, providing all the (then) internet capabilities. But it collapsed under it's own weight, primarily due to its financial model being, at base, an ISP.
FB on the other hand "got it", they aren't an ISP (but they are building out networking in the third world so that people can use FB). Instead they are an enabler. I can imagine them discussing "what do people WANT".
