Yes, sorry, I am miscommunicating all the time it seems (perhaps cause I'm
tired).

I like to have a setup that works in general, and make install mostly works.  I
thought it was possible to improve it, but it seems that my ideas run against
"common practise".  So it's better to do the simple thing.

At my current university everything is ok.
