configure && make && make install as suggested in http://fricas.sourceforge.net/doc/INSTALL.txt (same as the INSTALL file that comes with the checkout of FriCAS)? I have the suspicion that your problem now is connected with your first unsuccessful build. Have you rebuild from scratch after the 'grep -E' correction?
