Yes, I understand this. As a writer I feel the same.
As a reader I find two functions with the same arguments
and return type with different effect confusing. Note
that compiler does not signal error because logically
"the same" operation may be defined in two different
places. So we should fix compiler to get be more
predictable. But IMO the code you wrote needs
fixing too.
