If you worked with git, then a server-down wouldn't prevent you from committing. You could always push later, when the server is up again. In the meantime you could push to another server and let people know where the (temporary) "official" repository is. Look at this site https://sites.google.com/site/hemmecke/fricas-svn#how-to-work-with you can also "git svn dcommit" later to the official svn repo if sf.net is up again.
