I'm not a big macOS fun or user myself, but SageMath and GAP are quite popular among Mac users, and they basically are either Homebrew users, or more of compiling on their own (the latter are the worst, support-wise, as their machines are often a huge mess, toolchain-wise) Macports lag behind in may ways, and are more popular among retrocomputing people. We (SageMath) tell Windows users to use WSL, as cygwin is a huge mess, and not very active, but we need more Unix than things like mingw64 provide.
