Dainik Asam Literary Award to Monalisa Saikia

GUWAHATI, Aug 28 - Noted writer Monalisa Saikia has been chosen for the Dainik 
Asam Literary Award for the year 2016 for her novel Shankhaninad.
A two-tier jury, comprising prominent litterateurs and literary critics of the 
State selected Saikia for the award, which carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000 
and a citation.

Saikia’s Shankhaninad came up in 2015.

Born in 1975, Monalisa Saikia has carved a niche for herself among the Assamese 
readers with five well-received novels and five story collections. The story 
collection Punar Janam Loi Tejimolai fetched her the Munin Barkataki Award in 
2004. Her other story collections include Sangopane Heujiya, Panir Ei Jiban Nil 
Paban, Big Bazar and Ketiyaba Pakhila.

Besides Shankhaninad, other novels written by Saikia are – Aborir Akash Aru 
Prithibi, Andolita Akash, Papor Prithibi and Satyaban Dur Hoi Najaba.

It needs mention here that since its inception the Dainik Asam has been playing 
a pioneering role in promoting the culture and literature of the State. For 
more than five decades, the newspaper has been promoting quality literature 
through its regular pages and supplements.

The Dainik Asam short story competition and novel competition by Dainik Asam 
and Sahitya Prakash have given suitable platforms to many talented writers of 
the State.

After celebrating its golden jubilee year in 2015, the prominent daily 
newspaper started the Dainik Asam Literary Award to carry forward the legacy.
