Another book freely available online is Pro Git written by Scott
Chacon and published by Apress.

It's available here: http://progit.org/book/

It doesn't require a Safari subscription or anything, but I've never
read the O'Reilly offering, so I'm not sure if Chacon's book is better
or worse.

I'm required to use svn at work, but I use git for all of my other vcs
needs; it's a very nice system.
