because this is for a print friendly button and the first time the data loads it is loading from xml and takes a fair while.... I don't want to have to populate the data again just to print.. it'll take way too long.

Why does that matter?
Just attach it then populate it after its attached.

thanks... can't use attachmovie, the mc is dynamically populated with
data... but it's good to know that I shouldn't spend any more time on it ;-)
Cheers,
Chris

You cant duplicate a mc into another mc. You will need to use
attachMovie

Subject: duplicateMovieClip
hi guys,
This might be a very simple question but at the moment
it's giving me headaches.
I want to do a duplicateMovieClip on a movie but the
duplicated movie should be put inside another movie. It works no problem when I'm
doing it in the same movie as the original, but when I tell it to create the movieClip
in another movie, it has a spaz and doesn't appear.
here's a snippet
on (release) {
duplicateMovieClip("_root.tester",
"_root.myPrintMC.tester", 1);
setProperty ("myPrintMC.tester", _x, "200");
}
Any help much appreciated
Cheers,
Chris
