And that latter model has worked oh so well this far... The problem is (the collective) "us" -- humans as a group are far too stupid to sensibly decide anything terribly important and as a result we will exterminate ourselves long before evolution has a chance to help us or our normally expected evolutionary derivatives. In light of this, although it is totally wrong for so many other reasons, Thomas' narcicissitic individualism probably is the best approach to adopt going forward as anything else is simply very slightly delaying the inevitable...
