That's a point. I was interpreting it in the simple and probably naive sense of "intended to or tending to cause fear, terror, etc", rather than any more special term-of-art sense. Valdis also points out to me (offlist, not sure if copied in) that official definitions of "terrorism" tend to include things like the systematic causing of terror for ideological purposes, and there's no evidence that this guy was systematic (haha) or had any ideological purpose. I dunno what the legal definition of the term is in the jurisdiction that this particular story comes from, so I can't say whether or not I think it's a Bad Thing. It's not immediately obvious to me that it must be bad; I can easily imagine definitions of "Terrorist Threat" that would both strike me as reasonable and cover the surface description of what this guy did. So anyway there are lots of other things going on that I think point much more clearly to how messed up the world is, wrt Terrorism Panic or otherwise, than this particular case. :) DC
