Subject: Re: FUSEBOX DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE 2000

although I *do* know where Charlottesville is, and the place is really
beautiful, I think the above question has some merit. Esp since it is
nominally scheduled to be a 1-day event. I presume the idea is to have as
many people as possible attend, right?

so there are no airports into Charlottesville? The currently proposed
solution, "fly to Washington-Dulles, drive 2-3 hours from there" means a
minimum commitment of 4-5 hours of travel time each way. By having the
conference someplace that is easily accessed, perhaps DC itself, or even
right near the Dulles Airport or such, you're saving lots and lots of
manhours of work. The cost? a "2-3 hour drive" on the part of the 3
developers in the city with the highest population per capita of FuseBox
developers. :)

Now if being near DC means a cost involved in renting a conference area then
I'd like to ask how much people are willing to pay to save 100-200 attendees
2-3 hours each. I'm figuring that even charging people $50 for the
conference means it is cheap since their time is worth a hell of a lot more
than $50/6=$9/hour.
But if the just-finished DC conference can manage to find space to hold it
without large additional costs maybe we all can too. Furthermore attendance
costs can be deducted and justified a hell of a lot easier than "lost" work
time. :)

I tell you what, have it in DC and *I*'ll pay the 3 Charlottesville
developers $9/hour to travel 3 hours to the event.!
