The only way to check if it is all valid is through a service. The
expiration date and name on the card are not "built-in" to the card number,
therefore you must use a service. The services (and the tags to talk to the
services) support the validation return code. Typically you can submit a
zero or one cent charge for validation. The service we use offers return
codes for testing.
.02 returns a Decline
.03 returns a Referral
.04 returns an Error
.05 returns a Hold-card
When you say you want to verify that the card is VALID, do you want to know
that the person isn't on credit hold, or that the card was reported stolen,
or that is hasn't expired?
I can download a credit card # generator from a hack site that will generate
a VALID credit card number, and the CF_Tags and validation will agree with
it.

merchant accounts and internet gateway for CC processing, contact me off

do you happen to know which one can do it without using a payment service?
it seems like most of them use some kind of payment service.
all i want to do here is to make sure user has a valid card(not just a basic
on the card number, but on all the relating info name and exp. date) but i
don't want to do a transaction. i don't know if it's possible. maybe someone
has some insight on it.
