I got this error several months ago, when the mail server administrator
changed the IP address and add some extra authentication. (Now, that I
remember, it was right after the Love Bug hit. Did I mention that someone
who opened the virus had a drive mapped to my development server. Cleaning
that up was fun!) I had to get the new address and the administrator had to
add my CF server to the authentication list. So, my first guess would be it
is a mail server problems.

I don't think this problem has to do with a limitation on NT - NT can
support many many files in a single directory. If you notice, there is an
error being generated from the SMTP Server as follows:
SMTP server replied "Internal error: Pending mail operations must be
completed."
So, this is not a CF error nor an NT error...it is an error on the side of
the SMTP Server. Even if you used a direct SMTP connection I would think
that you would still encounter this error.
