I've just come off a big project (not 2-million big) where the site was all
done in fusebox. One thing that I found was that it's important to have a
technical architect who can produce the fusedocs for the other programmers
to work with.
A technical launch that spent 2 days teaching the developers, creative and
QA about fusebox and how to implement it was also key. This was combined
with code reviews of individual circuit applications after they were
finished.
The end result under-budget, ontime development of a product that has been
easy to maintain and predictable to enhance. Developers are able to work
like surgeons planning what files they need to open or add in order to make
any changes.
One of the keys to the projects success though was having somebody (or group
of people) in the role of code champion(s). If any changes were going to be
made they needed to be documented before hand and then approved by the code
champions.
I'd recommend doing a large project in fusebox whole heartedly.
The one difficulty I had was getting a design methodology to ensure good
design for technologies other than fusebox. i.e. SQL server, COM etc...

Subject: fusebox's advantages VS. disadvantages
hi,
i'm kind of new to the fusebox thing, been reading and following the things
going on here for a while, now.
we are in the planning stage of building a 2-million dollar website for a
big client. i'm very interested in adopting the fusebox standard for the
development. but few problems: none of the people on my team knows anything
about fusebox. and i have only built couple small apps with it.
not an expert at all. how i can convince them to use it? biggest advantages
and disadvantages? from your experience, is it really worth the trouble to
pick it up and use it on a huge site? how much of a learning curve?
is this thing mature enough? any unsolved issues?
the other major problem: whom can i really turn to if i encounter a serious
problem?
if i do it in fusebox i really prefer it's going to be 100% fusebox.
(i think an app that's part fusebox and part not, is worse than one that's
totally non-fusebox, would you agree?)
i'm not sure if all the problems that we are going to encounter can be
solved in fusebox style.
i know this is a lot of questions.but
any input will be greatly appreciated.
thanks
alex
