I have to completely agree! we use Majordomo on our sun boxes and it manages
14 different lists with probably 50,000 subscribers and does it without any
issues.

It has been suggested a few times that Majordomo be used
or any other free listserv software in the *nix world...

It is relatively straightforward to setup using Sendmail as
the MTA..

Lyris is very expensive and Majordomo at least rivals
Lyris in almost every category..

It shouldnt take more than a day to set up Majordomo and tweak it
and get a test list going and then tweak from there.

All of this has already been suggested.

More hardware? A p200 with 64MB of ram could handle the volume
of all the lists HOF maintains rather easily, it is purely a
bandwidth, software thing since the hardware would be relatively
cheap.

Support.. has to be better or equal with Major domo because this
listserv package dies a lot for things it probably shouldnt and
there seem to be no fixes for this.....

No its not a complaint just a fact of life.

Majordomo or any of the free listserv packages serve MUCH higher
traffic lists than this, they are proven software etc.. I am guessing
that Michael wishes to avoid anything but a NT solution tho.

I suppose the main problem is it takes a lot of time to set everything
up under a Unix when you are not at all familiar with it. Anyhow...
It *IS* realtively easy one you know.. :)
