Alan,
First question: Because it'll only write the Java it knows how to write.
Unlike Postscript and Quark, there will always be more in Java's heaven and
earth than is dreamt of in CF's philosophy.
Second question: To my knowledge, no, CFML in 4.5 isn't compiled into C++
code and then executed... it's executed by a C++ interpreter. That's
distinct from, say, ASP.NET and the Common Language Runtime, which will
"compile" code into a DLL-like package in advance.
Please note that I don't intend to put much effort into ASP.NET *or*
Java/JSP... I'm happy with CF, and it does what I need it to do. But if I
had the itch to move beyond CF, that's where I'd be headed.
