Correct. This is a list of some of the more popular features lacking in
MySQL:
1) Row Level Locking
2) Transactions
3) Column Constraints
4) Table Constraints
5) Default Values for Columns
6) Foreign Keys
7) Stored Procedures
8) Sub-selects
9) Views
10 TRUE and FALSE Constants
11) UNION Statements

To me MySQL isn't an alternative, it is the one! :)
we've been running it for some years now and it really runs nice and
extremely fast.
Transactions have never been a problem for us, a lot due to the stability
of the product. Not one single crash.
This is of course an issue for many and MySQL has addressed this and the
current version of MySQL do support transaction.
Unfortunately I can't give you any feedback on how good or bad this works
or affects the performance of the engine.
Maybe someone else has some experience with this new feature of MySQL?
