Sorry to butt in on this but...oh please...one of the best things about XFB
is that you don't have to make unnecessary calls to custom tags. Remember,
not all of us have the luxury of access to the custom tags directory so we
have to use cfmodule everywhere...and it we have to use cfmodule, we might
as well make everything attributes because we'll probably have to pass
everything anyway...which completely sucks!
But on a more somber note: the nesting of fuseboxes using Hals XFB
methodology simplifies how you find your way from point a to point b. When
circuits have an app_circuits.cfm file (sorry Hal, I felt it important to
stay with at least one convention I like), you know where things are going
and can EASILY drill down from circuit to circuit.
Can you do it any other way...GOD YES...before Hal even came out with XFB, I
was using very similar techniques at my current contract that did the
following:
cascade circuits
nest table of contents navigation
override or implement current "look and feel"
move easily from one circuit to another
The one thing that seems to be missing from these arguments (at least about
XFB...and admittedly they are not tantamount to good design or development)
is that there is really little need or the url_ construct at all.
Everything has its place and all the circuits know how to communicate "down"
to each other as you traverse an hierarchy.
Anyway...I have lots more to say but everyone else seems to be saying it so
I will shut up with that two cents.
With Respect,
Mike Craig

Steve,
Same here... the whole XFB nesting thing strikes me as a beautiful mess that
solves a non-problem. Custom tags are a fundamental part of CF, and to me,
they have always seemed the cleanest, most natural way of calling another
'box.
