There is a similar thread what you describe and it appears that Macromedia
is aware that one of the Netscape Messenger DLLs that they use to
facilitate mail (smtp, port 25 stuff) has a memory leak. There is an
unofficial dll replacement posted in the thread. We applied it yesterday
and have gone from thinking we needed to go to 1 GB of RAM and a 2nd
Processor to wondering if we really need the 512 MB for our web server.

However, not all is well. On the original cf4.5, we would get a whole
bunch of very new server errors. Including a mysterious,
Donteverusethisvariablecfmlerrorblahblahblah (or something very similar).
This would always require us to restart the CF process. It seemed to go
away in SP2; but after the dll replacement, 2 hours later I had this error
crop up. I'm aware this is all speculation, but I don't ever find useful
things in the log files to track this issue down.

Finally, to those that restart their server, you may want to hop on over
to www.sysinternals.com and download the ps utilities for NT. With these,
you can get a cmd prompt on the box, list the processes and kill them. I
have found that using these tools is 100% successful for processes that
are out of control, where as the contol panel and mmc and services and
<insert favorite ms widget> here are not. So we don't reboot our box
unless something is _very_ wrong.
