Here's a wacky theory:
- People are on list[A]
- Listing is physically listed from list[A][A] to list [A][X] maybe in the
order they actually joined up on the list.
- User list[A][X] (me I signed up very recently) send email to list.
- System now relays to the group starting with the person list[A][A].
- First batch of peeps (lets say for arguments sake) up to list[A][F]
receive the relay in a timely manner.
- SMTP server for some reason slows**
- User list[A][X] is last on the list thus waits the longest.
** Possibly the "message amount per session" (I forget the actual technical
garble) required to send the whole list is GT than the actually size of the
list?

Counts on a number of factors. I have a few people who ALWAYS have stuff in
the queue. There are others that are there at different points in the day.
Most people (and I say this statistically) get their mail with in 8 minutes
or sooner. Of course, you can check the list by looking at the HoF archives.
All posts get to the archives and then to the list. If you see your post
there and a response, then someone already got it. Oh, if you've seen a
delay over the last 30 minutes or so, it's due to a machine reboot over some
bad mail.
