This may have been a mistype, but make sure you are consitent with your 
variable scoping.

In the cfparam, the variable is "url.tfm_orderby". In the cfoutput, there's no 
reference to the URL scope.

So:

<cfparam name="url.tfm_orderby" default="" />

and

<cfoutput>#url.tfm_orderby#</cfoutput>
