I have seen sites sped up with the fb3 spec. Also I have found that while I am a decent coder, as I go back and recode the site to take full advantage of the fb3 spec, there were things I did that just don't make sense anymore. So it allows me to fix crap code.

There's really not that much work involved. Once you get the hang of FB3 you'll find that converting an FB2 app is an easy, five minute job.
