that's got nothing to do with the core file, Alan. Personally, I sure don't use that <CFIF> version test in the index.cfm to determine which version of CF I'm using....why pay the small hit of the CFIF plus the CFLOCK on the server variable if one is not in an enviroment where there could be multiple versions of CF ?? -- particularly for very old versions of CF4/CF4.5 the CFIF in the index.cfm should only be used by people who are unfortunately stuck with CF4/4.5 and don't want to have to think about things the moment they convert over to CF5.
