Kim,
You're welcome!
I do still have a an issue in that I can't preview. Probably
there's some
tweak needed for Mac that I haven't determined yet. (I tried both:
and //
just in case).
I tried to search for the posting regarding path directories I spoke
of but couldn't find it. Maybe try "\\", you're tried everything else.
And the rule gives a validation/save error that I ignored of
"OnJobStart,
line 45: Error: File operation open failed." I guess this might be
expected and, as I said, composing does work.
I may be wrong on this, but due to the repeat templates structure, I
don't thing the Preview will even work. As Graham (thank you!)
explained, the repeat template reads in your data file into an
OnJobStart callback which then re-writes the data to a temp. file
creating multiple records based on the repeat count. It then uses the
temp. file to compose from. The OnRecordStart rule simply switches
layouts. Since the OnJobStart hasn't been called until you compose
and the temp file hasn't been processed... it doesn't preview/look as
the composed file would.
WORD OF CAUTION: In the past, we have used the repeat template to
process book covers and it has caused a minor issue.
Hope I can explain this clearly... if a secondary run is shorter then
the previous run, the balance of the first will show up. Lets say
your first run has 100 total records (after temp. file is created)
and your second run only has 75. The second composed file will
contain not only it's own 75 but the balance of the first run.
Basically, if you don't find the temp. file and delete it, the
preceding runs may contain the highest record count held inside the
temp file itself.
Clear as mud right! And there's nothing worst then running a whole
project and finding out that you have 2... 3... 7 copies of the same
record.
Thanks very much once again. This board is great and you guys are
quite helpful.
The forum has taught me a great deal too! Some the my best rules/
templates have come from multiple suggestion rolled into one.
Ryan
