I think the following code should return what you are looking for if I
understand your problem correctly. I substituted in a guess for what the direct
number field name is, so you'll need to modify a couple of lines.
Var1 = "Direct: " + Field("Direct");
Var2 = "* Fax: " + Field("FAX");
if ((Field("FAX") == "") && (Field("Direct") == ""))
return "";
else
return Var1 + Var2;

I have a simple script (the only kind I'm capable of so far) that allows the
FAX number to be optional on a layout, and adds a bullet between that field and
the Direct phone number which precedes it:
if (Field("FAX") == "")
return "";
else
return "* Fax: "+(Field("FAX"))
The Direct phone number used to be required, now it is optional, As the script
is currently written, if both the Direct number and the FAX number are omitted,
I get just a bullet on the printout. I'd like to modify this script to
eliminate the bullet. I believe I should do that by adding an additional modify
which signifies if the Direct field is null as well, but I keep getting syntax
errors.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
