Alex, I am not talking about tweaking text to exactly match. I know that is
pretty much trial and error.

What I am talking about can be seen in the following two links from my
original email. Ignore the text and just look at the backgrounds.

In the second link you can see the two diamond graphics are perfectly
circular, as they should be. They are on the static pdf.
Now, look at the first link. See how the parts of the diamond graphics
inside the frame are offset from the parts outside the frame?

So, if what renders inside the text frame with preview is not accurate to
what is actually underneath it, then using preview for lining up elements is
useless.
