Hi Mark,
I can understand the need to avoid large changes in FP's codebase!
To answer your question, yes, that's pretty much what we're after.
Also, more and more of the high end B & W machines implement their
specific features (punching, stapling, etc.) best using their own
drivers to transfer job settings to their RIP's. I'm talking about the
138 ppm sheetfeds, not the 40 ppm desktops.
I can't speak for all users, but for our purposes it would be ideal to
check the "Output to printer" box on the Compose tab, choose the
printer, and when the user clicks "Compose," show the printer settings
dialog. The user can then modify settings, click "Print" and out goes
the job.
Perhaps use existing code to generate the usual Postscript output (as I
would normally for a B & W job) to a temporary file, then "stream" the
postscript to the printer driver?
Hope that helps!

Out of curiosity (and the ensure I understand the precise need), is the
desired capability pretty much the same as if you were to compose to PDF
output first, open that PDF output in Acrobat, and then do a File->Print
to your printer - setting the appropriate printer options at that point?
Thanks again for your feedback on this!
