Hello, Jeff

The output from FusionPro for JLYT is fully composed and typeset
print-ready output. Unlike YTD, we do not output what is called (I
think) "templated JLYT" which is where you have a JLYT file with
variable placeholders that you then put on the RIP, drop the images on
the RIP, and then drop the datafile for the job on the RIP for
processing.

Another term for these 2 approaches to VDP composition is "early
binding" vs. "late binding". We opted for the early binding approach
(we create fully composed output which is then RIP'd and printed vs.
letting the RIP merge the document for you on the RIP) for a number of
reasons including:

1) Proofing workflow - you can proof a PDF output file in FP Desktop and
then have a good expectation of what the JLYT will look like when
FusionPro composes it and you RIP/Print it since it is the exact same
composition engine composing the JLYT and PDF.

2) Enhanced VDP Capabilities - We have some pretty advanced VDP options
such as the powerful JavaScript rules engine, page switching,
auto-page-overflow, and advanced copyfitting which are not available in
the YTD workflow. For some users, YTD meets their needs adequately.
However, many users either have the need for our advanced features or
foresee a time when they will want to use those features in their
workflow to meet client need. By composing the JLYT completely in
FusionPro, we apply our full VDP capability to that output. With the
"templated JLYT" approach, you have some limitations as to what VDP
options are available for the merge on the RIP.

Besides the best practices for designing for SNAP that are in the doc
that you have (90-degree-only frame rotation, integral-only point sizes,
etc), I would suggest trying the HP PPML output format. HP SNAP PPML is
compatible with your 5000 and offers some great scalability options for
the future (such as breaking a single job across multiple RIPs to
process it faster). A number of high-volume FusionPro Server customers
that I am familiar with use HP SNAP PPML in their workflows (we're
talking hundreds of thousands of records per job) successfully.

Hope this info helps, Jeff.
